Check Out a Book

Due to COVID-19, materials are available through both visits and curbside pickup. Returned materials are quarantined, during which you’ll still see them on your account. Overdue fees will be waived. If you need additional accommodations, please call and we will work to find a solution.

To pick up materials, you can place holds in the online catalog, the app, or by calling the library. We’re also glad to put together a bag of materials for you.

We have collections of fiction, nonfiction, large print, mass market paperbacks, young adult, and juvenile titles. We also have audiobooks on CD and film and TV on DVD. We recently started a game library, as well as a coding lab.

Checkouts

At Lowville Free Library, you can check out up to 20 items at once. Unless otherwise specified, you can check out items for the following:

  • Books, 4 weeks
  • New books, 2 weeks
  • Audiobooks, 2 weeks
  • DVDs, 1 week ($1 rental)

If books are not returned, they will accrue the following fines:

  • Adult materials, $0.10/day
  • Juvenile materials, $0.05/day
  • Audiobooks, $0.10/day
  • DVDs, $1.00/day

If you need more time, items can be renewed unless someone else is waiting for them. Renew online or over the phone.

Holds

You can place holds on items from our library or from anywhere in North Country Library System. Place a hold by visiting the catalog, giving us a call, or sending a message.

With one library card, you can use any library in North Country Libraries! You can pickup and return to any library of your choice, or pickup at one, and return at another.

Kids

At Lowville Free Library, a child can get a card at their parent or guardian’s discretion, and must have a parent or guardian’s signature until age 14.

Find a Book

We love helping you find books that you’ll enjoy! We curate displays and lists that might help you find your next great read. If you’re still looking, or aren’t able to find a book, please ask! Our staff would be glad to help, whether it’s recommending readalikes, finding a book at another library, or pulling together a bag of items to try.

Digital Collection

If you prefer to read or listen digitally, we have a full digital collection of e-books and e-audiobooks. You can access them in a browser, or download the Libby app (you can find it in for Apple and Android).
